$3 million for Eye Injury Sun Times 10/6/89
A Cook County jury has awarded $3 million to a 26 year-old South Side janitor who was blinded in his right eye when a nail he was hammering splintered and flew into his eye. Terry Lynch was injured Aug. 16, 1984, while working as a lumber salesman for Forest City Enterprises in Burbank. The jury ordered the nail manufacturer, Metropolitan Wholesale Supply Inc., of River Grove, to pay half of the $3 million and Forest City Enterprises to pay half. The largest award in Cook County for the loss of one eye is believed to be $5 million. |
